Autonomous vehicles are no longer a concept of the future. Uc San Diego is currently using self driving cars to deliver mail and figuring out how to further implement this new tool. With this new innovation, we need to consider how the city of San Diego can best prepare for the predicted effects of driverless cars.
Specific angles to explore
The share economy has already made housing and micro-mobility available for temporary use by multiple people. Companies like Lyft and Uber pose feasible examples of what San Diego could look like when autonomous vehicles begin hitting the streets. With limitations on parking, car insurance, cost of ownership, and varying mobility needs; is it possible that autonomous vehicles could solve all these problems? And, if so, what challenges will we face when driverless cars become the new normal?
Encourage Tourists: How might we encourage trust in autonomous vehicles when some members of the public see them as new and dangerous?
